|Spider's leaning against a Convenient Nexus Wall, in armor this time…|

"From what I've read of my alternates, I think that I myself fit that description," says Oriana gravely from where she's sitting with a book.
He gives her a smile. "Oh? How so?"
"I might fit that myself, but I haven't heard much about any of my possible alts. Most of them couldn'tve had the same creators, though."
"I'm female... and humanoid."
"Only alt of me I've seen so far was female." And awfully pale, with blue hair. "Seems to be a pretty common thing with alts. The rest, now that sounds new."
"Every alt of my original that I've read about or met is a male mechanoid who transforms into a large transport vehicle."
"Original?" Yeah, that gets a curious look while the rest didn't even make him blink. Someone's getting used to the Nexus.
"Er... I suppose some would call her my mother."
Spider nods. "I get told a lot that I take after my ma..."
"There are times when I closely resemble my own. I... don't know how our personalities compare."
"Some of my design was loosely based on hers, including the weapons system."
When he first came to the Nexus he'd have been a lot more close-mouthed about such things, but he's learned a few things since then.
"Weapons system?" She hasn't really scanned him.
Spider holds up a playing card that he didn't seem to be holding a second earlier. It starts to glow very slightly, and he spins to throw it at a convenient nexus rock. Both the card and the rock are destroyed in a small explosion.
She blinks, then sheepishly extinguishes her sword and hides her hand behind her back. "Interesting."
Huh, did someone have a lightsaber out? What?
Spider blinks and looks a wee embarrassed himself. "Some things are easier to show than to tell."
Not really a lightsaber... but definitely a honking big holographic sword.
Oriana nods. "I'm sorry. I haven't got full control over the programming yet."
"Hey, no harm no foul, right?"
Her brows quirk. "I haven't heard that phrase before. What does it mean?"
"Nothing actually happened
- you didn't attack me and if you had the No Violence Field I keep hearing about should have stopped it - so there's no problem."
"Ah." She smiles slightly. "I see."
He gives her a grin back.
She chuckles, then pulls her hand from behind her back and manifests the blue sword blade from it so that he can see it.
He nods. "I know a couple people that use swords. And one that uses an axe."
"Ma's cards, they cut things instead of exploding. Guess neither of us would be too good at close range combat. But then, fighting's not a plan. Fighting's what you end up doing when the plan didn't work."
She lets it fade. "I was created to protect. I fought all my life, till I came here."
"I know a lot of folks that were designed for combat. But there's more than one way to fight. Back home, waving a bunch of weapons around would just make things worse. We have to be sneakier than that if we're gonna survive."
She winces. "I... no longer fight. Will you tell me your story? What part of it that you're comfortable sharing?"
