About A man in a gray suit who hasn't been around in a while falls slowly…

Previous Entry Nov. 29th, 2006 @ 09:34 pm Next Entry
A man in a gray suit who hasn't been around in a while falls slowly but surely onto an old-school Convenient Nexus Couch™. "Alec?" he calls out. "You there, love?"

He notices he has an audience. "What do you do when you get something you thought you wanted and promptly start to question whether it's what you thought it was?"

Distract myself from questioning with someone else.

Alec? Alec Troven?

"That's one way of doing it, I guess.

"The very same. If he's mentioned a boyfriend named Michael? That would be I. — Or, indeed, if he hasn't, but if he has, that'll make this easier."

Yeah.

*sticks out a hand* He has. I'm Orion, the night manager at his inn.

Michael takes the hand and shakes it. "Pleased to meet you." He is promptly distracted from any further comments, thanks to millitime I mean Nexustime, by a glomping Alec.

After the mun has had a hamburger, a detour to a hole in the wall grocery store, a return to the hole in the wall grocery store for tangerines, an unexpected stop at Smart and Final and the gas station there is an Alec clinging to Michael. He's using both hands which makes it much easier to cling. It doesn't look like he'll be peeling off anytime soon.

Michael relinquishes Orion's hand and returns the glompage. "I'm here now, love. It's going to be all right." He notices something. "Alec, your arm—!"

There's a moment of just yay Michaelness before Alec answers him. "Missed you," he said. He would wiggle fingers for Michael but that would require letting go. "It works! There's no feeling in it. But it works!"

"That's something at least. I was beginning to worry you'd never get back any use of it. What happened to it, anyway? And would you like help with the rest of that recovery?"

*How long has Triv been there? No telling. But it looks like she's been there at least long enough to have seen Alec doing his best to turn into a leech.*

I consider why I wanted it and what it is that I actually got.

"...that makes sense. What I wanted was to be a hero again. I've gotten that, but in Paragon City, not any place on my original Earth."

Mmm. And is it worth the price that a hero pays?

"So far, it's worth most of the prices it's called on me to pay. Which one were you thinking of?"

Oh, just the usual, time spent away from loved ones, unscrupulous enemies who think nothing of targeting said loved ones... having to leave them behind to pursue a villain.

"Given the nature of my relationship to Alec, and who and what we both are, none of those is as arduous to me as it could be. Thus far, the enemies I've made in Paragon City haven't targeted him, and I've spent more time away from him due to Milliways than due to Paragon. Hell's buckets, my early days in the city actually overlap with time I've spent with him."
